The city of Sachse is inviting residents to take an active role in shaping the community by applying to serve on one of its boards or commissions. These volunteer positions offer a chance to share expertise, provide input on key issues and work alongside city leaders to guide Sachse’s future.
Boards and commissions serve as advisory bodies to City Council on topics ranging from parks and recreation to planning, zoning, economic development and more. Appointments will be made by the council this fall. Applicants who are not selected will remain on file for one year and may be reconsidered when vacancies occur.
Among the available opportunities is the Animal Shelter Board, which advises City Council on matters involving the Sachse Animal Shelter and animal control policies. The board meets at least three times a year at City Hall and one seat is currently vacant.
The Board of Adjustment, a quasi-judicial body that hears variance requests and appeals related to the city’s zoning ordinance, meets as needed. Four of its positions are set to expire in 2025.
The Sachse Economic Development Corporation Board focuses on improving the city’s economic environment and managing designated sales tax proceeds under state law. It meets on the third Thursday of each month and four positions will open next year.
Residents with a passion for literacy and community engagement can apply for the Library Board, which advises on the library’s operations and services. The board meets monthly and has four terms expiring in 2025.
The Municipal Development District Board oversees funds for parks and recreation projects within the district, meeting as needed on the second Thursday of the month. Three of its positions are set to expire next year.
The Parks and Recreation Board, which studies and advises on the city’s park system and recreational offerings, meets on the second Thursday each month and has four seats expiring in 2025.
The Planning and Zoning Commission, the city’s primary advisory group on development-related issues, meets on the second and fourth Mondays each month. Three positions on the commission will be open next year.
Applications can be submitted online through the city’s website. For more information, contact City Secretary Leah Granger at [email protected].
