WYLIE — The Sachse volleyball team stayed sharp on the road Tuesday night, sweeping Wylie East Lady Raiders in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) in a pivotal District 9-6A volleyball match.
Both teams opened the first set trading points in a back-and-forth battle. Tied at 10 apiece, neither side could establish separation until late in the frame. Wylie East led 19-17 before Sachse rallied, tying the set at 22 and finishing with three straight points to win 25-22. Defensive stops on the back row proved crucial for the Lady Mustangs, who seized momentum early.
The second set swung heavily in Sachse’s favor. Wylie East opened with a 2-0 lead, but unforced errors allowed Sachse to respond with a 9-1 run. Behind crisp execution and strong defensive positioning, the Lady Mustangs stretched their lead to 17-9. Wylie East briefly cut the deficit to three, but Sachse closed out the set 25-19, moving one win away from a sweep.
Wylie East threatened to extend the match in the third set, jumping ahead 8-5 on kills from Norah Hicks and Tess Adamic. But Sachse’s front line powered back, highlighted by kills from Jayla Butler and Raniya Temple-Robinson, who carried the Lady Mustangs back even at 17-17. A late surge pushed Sachse in front 21-19, and the defense tightened once again to seal the 25-19 win and complete the sweep.
Temple-Robinson led Sachse with 13 kills, five digs, and an ace. Butler added five kills and two digs, while Shelby Siratt contributed a match-high 16 digs. Laney George recorded two aces and eight digs, and Kennedy Colwell chipped in 13 digs.
Sachse head coach Rikki Jones praised her young team’s ability to withstand the pressure in a tough district environment.
“We knew coming in that they were going to challenge us at the net, but I’m proud that we stayed disciplined defensively and trusted each other in big moments,” Jones said.
She noted that the match also reflected progress from recent practices.
“I’m glad the girls were able to take what we’ve been working on in practice and put it into play,” Jones said. “Every set had its turning point, and we found ways to respond each time. That’s the kind of composure we’ll need as district play continues.”
With the victory, Sachse improved to 3-0 in district play and 10-12 overall. Wylie East dropped to 1-2 in district and 8-14 on the season after the loss.
Up next, Sachse travels to face Rowlett on Friday, while Wylie East heads across town for a rivalry matchup at Wylie the same night.
