Kim Spicer has been appointed acting superintendent of Wylie ISD during a special trustee meeting Monday night.
The board also voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent David Vinson, which will take effect once his contract with Conroe ISD is finalized. At that time, Spicer will formally assume the role of acting superintendent.
Board President Jacob Day, speaking on behalf of trustees, said, “The board has complete confidence in Dr. Spicer’s ability to guide Wylie ISD during this time. She is a proven leader who knows our district inside and out and has consistently demonstrated her commitment to students, staff and families. We are grateful for her steady leadership and look forward to working alongside her.”
Spicer currently serves as the district’s deputy superintendent of curriculum and instruction and has more than 30 years of experience in education, including leadership in instructional programming and administrative roles. She joined Wylie ISD in 2010 and has helped guide curriculum development and instructional strategies across the district.
Before joining Wylie ISD, Spicer worked in Frenship ISD for two decades, including 10 years as principal of Frenship High School. She began her career as a science teacher in West Texas before advancing into campus and district leadership roles.
She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University in 2016. She holds a master’s degree in school administration, awarded in 1995, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Angelo State University, earned in 1989.
The Wylie ISD board is expected to begin the search for a permanent superintendent immediately.
A farewell reception honoring Vinson’s 14 years of leadership in Wylie ISD will be held Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Wylie ISD Educational Service Center, 951 Ballard Ave. The come-and-go event is open to the public.
