Garland ISD trustees approved policy updates addressing artificial intelligence and diversity, equity and inclusion language, declined a proposal to add prayer time during the school day, and authorized a joint elections contract during last week’s board meeting.
The board met Tuesday, Feb. 24, and began the session with a public hearing on the district’s 2024–25 Annual Performance Report.
Veronica Joyner, executive director of research, assessment and accountability, told trustees the district received an A rating for Superior Achievement in the 2024–25 FIRST report, a B in the 2025 accountability rating and a “needs assistance” designation for special education in 2025. The full report will be posted on the district’s website within two weeks of the meeting.
During the public hearing, one citizen urged parents to review plans for their children’s schools. He alleged that while the district’s 2025–26 plan is available online, individual campus plans are not posted on school websites.
