Sachse Fire-Rescue recognized the dedication, training and lifesaving efforts of its personnel during the department’s 2025 Annual Awards Banquet, highlighting achievements across emergency response, professional development and years of service.
The evening opened Saturday, March 7, with a welcome from Fire Chief Wade, followed by the presentation of colors, pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags and a moment of silence honoring fallen firefighters. Chaplain Michael Hughes delivered the invocation. Sachse Mayor Jeff Bickerstaff also addressed attendees, recognizing the department’s role in protecting the community.
A significant portion of the evening was dedicated to the presentation of Texas Commission on Fire Protection certifications, reflecting continued training and advancement among department personnel. Firefighters and officers were recognized for achievements ranging from basic firefighting and fire inspection to advanced technical rescue, instructor certifications and fire officer designations.
Special recognitions highlighted individual accomplishments beyond day-to-day duties. Conner O’Donnell was recognized for his role in the Critical Care Medic Program, while Jesse Edwards and Michael Hughes were honored as college graduates. Jonathan Hughes was recognized for completing the police academy. Scott Castillo was recognized for his participation in the Guns & Hoses event, and deployment acknowledgments were given to Chief Wade and Kyle Potraza.
The department also marked milestones in years of service, recognizing firefighters for one, five, 10 and 20 years of commitment to the community. Among those honored for 20 years of service were Clay Hodges and Capt. Scott Potter.
Fire prevention efforts were also spotlighted, with Diana Beaver recognized for her work with the “Sachse Safety Squad” program.
Several firefighters were honored for exemplary service and bravery. Jesse Edwards received a Medal of Commendation, while Capt. Ken Messick was awarded a Certificate of Merit. Multiple personnel were recognized with Life-Saving Awards for their actions during emergency incidents throughout the year, including responses in June, July and October.
The banquet concluded with the presentation of the department’s top annual awards. Coby Eikenhorst was named Rookie of the Year, while Austin Fullen earned Driver Engineer of the Year honors. Jesse Edwards was recognized as EMS Person of the Year and also received the Medical Director Award. Brendon Swanson was named Firefighter of the Year, and Capt. Brian Crutcher was honored as Officer of the Year.
Chief’s Awards were presented to Edwards, Fullen and Capt. Ken Messick for their outstanding contributions to the department.
