Garland ISD earns top state honor, elects board officers

Garland ISD trustees celebrated the district being named H-E-B Texas District of the Year during their May 26 meeting, while also swearing in returning board members and selecting board leadership for the upcoming school year.

The meeting began with public forum before trustees swore in members elected to serve on the board. Board Services Manager Mechelle Hogan administered the oath of office to incumbent trustees Daphne Stanley, Place 4, and Jamie Miller, Place 5. Miller ran unopposed in the May 2 election, while Stanley defeated Tim Parr with approximately 69% of the vote.


Following executive session, trustees elected board officers for the 2026-27 school year. Wes Johnson was elected president, Larry Glick vice president, Daphne Stanley secretary and Jamie Miller assistant secretary.
