The Sachse News will continue to highlight the 2025-26 school year for Sachse High School in athletics.
The focus this week will be on golf and track and field.
Let’s take a look at each sport.
Golf
The Sachse boys were focused throughout the district tournament.
The Mustangs won the team title with a score of 580 – 44 strokes better than runner-up Wylie, also a regional qualifier.
Andrew Scott had the lowest score of any golfer, shooting a 68 on day 1 and 69 on day 2, for a two-day total of 137.
Dylan Wisener took third overall with a 143, Landon Hilario was fourth with a 144, Kayden Massey shot 160 and Jayden Chu carded a 163.
Sachse had a solid showing at the Region II-6A Tournament, posting a team score of 606, which was 55 strokes better than the previous year. However, the Mustangs were unable to overtake the top three teams in the standings – The Woodlands (561), Conroe Grand Oaks (586) and Tomball (586), all of whom qualified for state – and fell short of qualifying for state.
Wisener came up two strokes short of earning an individual berth. He finished in 10th with a 146, including an even-par 71 in the second round. Scott finished one stroke behind Wisener, shooting a 147 to tie for 11th place.
Hilario placed 33rd with a 154, Chu finished 42nd with a 159 and Massey placed 76th with a 182.
The Lady Mustangs finished in 12th place at the regional tournament with a final score of 758.
Valerie Dunaway tied for 44th after carding a 181. Hunter Cheek placed 53rd with a 187. Natalie Cheek shot a 197 to finish in 56th. Hannah Hoeinghaus tied for 60th with a 199, and Ava Schwartz was 75th with a 217.
Sachse qualified for regionals after placing second in the district tournament with a 947.
Hunter Cheek placed third overall with a 168, Dunaway was sixth with a 184, Hoeinghaus took seventh with a 185, Natalie Cheek shot 186, and Schwartz carded a 224.
Track and field
For a moment, Cameryn Fair wasn’t sure if her high school career was going to end in Waco.
Fair earned third place in the girls’ long jump in the regional meet with a distance of 19-2, but with only the top two finishers earning an automatic berth in the state meet, she was forced to wait until the results of the other three regions were finalized.
Fortunately for Fair, her leap of 19-2 held up as the top third-place mark and she earned a wild-card spot at state.
At the state meet in Austin, she placed eighth with an 18-4.75. A few weeks prior at the area meet in Royse City, Fair broke the school record with a leap of 19-7.25.
Sachse broke four school records at the area meet: Samuel Ledbetter in the boys 3,200, Dominic Richardson in the boys 1,600, Abigail Leonard in the girls 1,600 and the girls 4×100 of Channing Phillips, Jaeda Bradshaw, Sydney Funston and Fair.
The Mustangs won three district titles: Ledbetter in the 3,200, Bradshaw in the girls 100 and the girls 4×100.
Sachse went on to earn regional qualifications in the girls’ long jump, girls’ 100-meter dash, girls’ 200, girls’ 800, girls’ 1,600, girls’ 3,200, girls’ 4×100, boys’ 4×200, boys’ 1,600 and boys’ 3,200.
