Sachse has continued its streak of playoff appearances under head coach Rikki Jones, although the Mustangs did not secure their 23rd consecutive postseason berth until the final week of the regular season.
A hard-fought 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18 road victory over Rowlett on Oct. 20 clinched Sachse’s playoff spot.
Senior Ella Smith led the offense with 27 kills and also contributed 19 digs. Junior Natallie Rainey added 11 kills, while senior Laney George distributed 26 assists and recorded five service aces.
The Mustangs capped a nine-win district campaign with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of Lakeview Centennial on Friday.
Sachse will face Rockwall in the Class 6A Division I bi-district round at 6 p.m. tonight at Rowlett High School.
The Mustangs will look to avenge a three-set loss to the Yellowjackets in last year’s playoffs.
