SACHSE — The Mustang basketball team opened the season with a split, falling 84-62 on Nov. 17 to Rockwall Heath, and then prevailing by the skin of their teeth last Friday, 43-42, at home over John Paul II.
The loss and the victory showed much work still remains before Sachse can consider itself a playoff contender. Their next test will come this weekend at the Arlington Martin Tournament.
“We played better defense tonight than we did on Tuesday night,” head coach Dwight Williams said after the JPII win. “I’m real happy with that. The bad (part is) we’re really not executing our offense the way we need to. We’re taking quick shots, and then the other team goes down and they get lay ups out of it. We have to work on our offensive execution, and we need (to make) free throws.”
