In an effort to assist families who were affected by the recent tornados, GISD has launched a website called GISD recovers.
The site identifies students and/or families in need, determines how they were affected by the storms and what help they may need as they return to school. Storm victims, or someone close to them, are encouraged to use the site to identify themselves or a family they know in need.
Providing meals, transportation and school uniforms are just a few of the ways the district is trying to help through the site and phone bank.
Garland ISD Superintendent said in a recent web post that he realizes many are still hurting.
“Garland ISD will continue to support its students and families. Several have already found shelter in our schools,” he said. “The district has also worked with them to secure additional assistance. We will continue this work, identifying those in need and helping in any way we can, throughout the next few months.”
