Garland school district TAPR results released

Garland ISD recently received the 2014-’15 Texas Academic Performance Report, which showed a met standard accountability rating status.

Overall, the district, which services 57,323 students was slightly under both state and Region 10 results.

Students taking the Grade 3 Reading, Grade 4 Reading, Grade 6 Reading and Grade 8 Reading either met or scored higher than the state and region scores.

Grade 4 Writing was slightly under the state and region scoring a 71 percent pass rate. Grade 5 Science scored a 70 percent pass rate compared to the region score of 72 percent.

In Grade 7, the reading score for Garland ISD was 75 percent, compared to the region, at 78 percent, and the state at 76 percent. The Grade 7 Writing score was 71 percent, 4 percentage points lower that the region and 2 percentage points lower than the state.

Unlike the Grade 8 Reading score, the Grade 8 Science and Social Studies scores were lower than the state and region scores. Science was 67 percent, 7 percentage points lower than region, and 61 percent at Social Studies, 7 points lower than the region.

Garland ISD had 99 percent of its district participate in the STAAR test.

The attendance rate for the 2013-’14 school year was 96.4 percent, which is a .01 percent rise over the prior school year. The annual dropout rate for grades 9-12 improved from 1.8 percent of students dropping out in the 2012-’13 school year, to 1.7 percent in the 2013-’14 year.
