From Staff Reports
Curriculum, education, assessment and much more is being considered as Garland ISD prepares to roll out their new “GISD Ready” initiative.
The initiative took form in 2014-’15 when new lessons, created by teachers for teachers originated. The program featured more hands-on, real-world applications and technology incorporation.
Additionally, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests were presented last fall to evaluate comprehension and growth.
The personalized computerized assessments are administered three times a year and are modified to each student’s learning level, allowing teachers to provide varied instruction, intervention or gifted and talented opportunities.
The district recently held a Digital Resources Carnival to help introduce the GISD Ready program. It showcased advancement in bilingual education, guidance and counseling, libraries, fine arts, and much more and welcomed approximately 3,000 families, employees and community members. Highlighting more than 80 programs, adults learned how they could continue students’ work at home and take advantage of resources just for them.
