Sachse’s soccer teams took the field on April Fool’s Day, but what happened to them was anything but funny.
Rather, their respective 2-1 area-round losses — the girls fell to Highland Park in Lake Highlands and the boys to North Mesquite in Garland — were heartbreaking endings to what had been tremendous seasons up to that point. In the Lady Mustangs’ case, they were ranked No.1 in the state, as well as No. 1 nationally in one poll, and the loss was their first of the season.
“When they got chances they put them away,” said Lady Mustangs’ head coach Kristen Campbell. “We both had chances, and they were able to put theirs away.”
