Wylie ISD officially opened its new culinary arts classroom and restaurant, The 544 Café, with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, September 21. The 544 is located on the west side of Wylie High School, (facing Country Club Road) at 2550 West FM 544.

The planning for the Café began two years ago with the help of Kay Irlas, past Director of Academic and Career Connection, former Chef Shona McKinney, Purchasing Manager Darci Hooten, and current Chef Toni Sloane. District bond money was utilized as well as monies from the Birmingham Fund to outfit the program. The restaurant features professional equipment as well as a stone pizza oven, several grills, a coffee station and large prep areas.
