The Mustangs met two goals this season; win their non-district schedule and then capture the District 10-6A title.
They accomplished both, and in the process, the blue and white staked itself to a 10-0 record. Now, the next goal, according to head coach Mark Behrens, is to reach the Class 6A, Div. I championship game.
The road to that begins 7 p.m. Friday versus Skyline in a Region II bi-district contest at Williams Stadium, with the winner facing The Woodlands-Mesquite Horn victor in area-round competition. Sachse got the chance to host a first-round game by throttling South Garland 57-0 in the Nov. 4 regular-season finale at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. That win also gave Sachse the outright District 10-6A crown.
In Skyline, the Mustangs face a team that finished 5-5 overall, third in District 9-6A and one that closed out the regular season by dumping J.J. Pearce 38-20.
“They’re going to be an athletic club,” Behrens said. “They are going to spread you out. They are similar to Lakeview (Centennial) in that respect. We feel like we have faced teams like that before, so we feel like that is we do everything right, we should be OK.”
