Pachyderms provide life lessons

Wylie resident Shari Junqueira wanted to give her 14-year-old daughter, Gia, a vacation that went beyond beaches or cruises. She wanted to provide her daughter an experience that she would remember.

An Asian elephant sanctuary in Hugo, Okla. proved to be just the right place to visit.

After hearing about Endangered Ark Foundation through social media, Junqueira decided to drive her daughter and some friends to Oklahoma for a pachyderm packed experience last month.

According to the website endangeredarkfoundation.org, “Endangered Ark Foundation is a private nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of retired Asian elephants in North America, providing a retirement ranch for circus elephants, and educating the public about them.”
