City staff identifies state legislation

During a workshop prior to the Oct. 18 regular meeting, city staff updated council on several bills passed by the Texas Legislature that could affect the city. 

Amanda Chi, assistant to the city manager, first covered the session’s timeline. The regular session began Jan. 12 and ended May 31. To date, there have been three called sessions. The first was from July. 8 to Aug. 6 and focused on COVID-19 aid and the response to the February Winter Storm. The second called session, which focused on voting laws, was from Aug. 7 to September 2 and the third, which addressed redistricting, began on Sept. 20 and ended Oct. 18.
