Battle for playoffs heads into final game

by | Feb 13, 2016 | Sports

Sachse did what it needed do this week, beating 11-6A champ Rowlett 53-52 in overtime on Feb. 9 and celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (Feb. 12) by forcing Tyler Lee to surrender 37-26. That left them tied with Rockwall (each at 8-5) to for third and fourth in district competition. They are both one game ahead of Naaman Forest (7-6).
That means Sachse must to defeat Garland – they beat the Owls 70-60 in their previous meeting – in the Feb. 16 regular-season finale in order to fully secure a playoff spot. The Mustangs have already been swept by Rockwall, giving the Yellowjackets a tiebreaker in case the teams each end the season with the same record.
Also, if Sachse loses to Garland, and Naaman Forest beats North Garland, there will likely by a play-in game for fourth, since the two teams split during the district schedule. That same scenario exists if Rockwall loses Tuesday to Lakeview Centennial, currently in second at 9-4, and the Rangers beat North Garland, as Naaman and Rockwall also split during the regular season.
