Call it a trial by fire or on-the-job training; both apply Kent Myers’ freshman season at Utah State.
That was two years ago, when Myers, less than a year removed from leading Sachse to an undefeated regular season and a district title, was thrust into the starting quarterback role with the Aggies. He responded by leading them to a 5-1 record while a starter, and closed out the season by being named the Offensive MVP in a 21-6 win over UTEP in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
This past season Myers, while sharing time at quarterback, racked up nearly 1,600 yards passing and 16 touchdowns.
Now, with 2016 season less than four months away, the former Sachse signal caller has been named the USU starter, or as Myers puts it, the job is his “to lose.”
“I have been waiting for the opportunity to come in and start, so I’m prepared,” he said. “It’s mine to lose right now, so I am going to work hard, not get complacent and go out and have a good season.”
